Robert Andrew was born in Perth in 1965. Andrew is a descendant of the Yawuru people, his Country is the lands and waters of the Broome area in the Kimberley Region, Western Australia.
Andrew’s work speaks to the past yet articulates a contemporary relationship to his Country. His work often combines machinery with earth pigments, ochres, rocks and soil to mine historical, cultural and personal events that have been buried and distanced by the dominant paradigms of western culture. This work is focused on the survival of indigenous culture. The title ‘Residues’ refers to language, land and history that has been left behind.

As a practitioner of Trika Shaivism, much of De Vietri’s work reflects his non-duality outlook on life. De Vietri has trained in Australia, Paris and New York which has allowed him to develop a broad understanding of various ways to approach his practise.
Christian de Vietri has been the recipient of numerous awards such as Australia’s National Sculpture Prize exhibition and Citizen of the Year in Western Australia for his contribution to visual art. His work can be found in significant national and international collections such as the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Artbank, Queensland Art Gallery and the Emily Fisher Landau Collection in New York.
