Emilie Heurtevent
Nature
14 December 2019 — 6 February 2020
Opening: Saturday, 14 December, 3:00 — 5:00 pm
Fox Galleries is proud to present Nature by Emilie Heurtevent.
Nature goes through cycles of decay and renewal where everything is about deconstruction and reconstruction, very much like humans. We all change, grow, develop behaviours and preferences.
This body of work highlights these cycles, shows the light and the darkness. It is evocative of another place and time. I’ve consciously created layers upon layers of marks, drips and abrasions to represent this Nature.
In these times of climate change and massive weather fluctuation, it’s never been so urgent to look around. I am not looking to provide the answers. I don’t have them. This is simply an awareness. We must open our eyes. We must ask ourselves the right questions. Genuinely.
And eventually, figure out what lies beyond our sight.
From Robert Louis Stevenson: “It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men’s hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit“.
