Esther Erlich in the 2022 Portia Geach Award

Congratulations to Esther Erlich for being selected yet again for the Portia Geach Memorial Award, with her painting Atong. The prize is one of Australia’s most recognised, rewarding women artists working in portraiture. Erlich’s portrait of Sudanese-born photographic artist Atong Atem was mentioned by John McDonald in his review of the prize, calling it the “most flamboyant work in the show…With some portraits the distance between artist and sitter is palpable, but in this instance one can feel how warmly Erlich responded to her subject.” Read the full article here.
