Ever wanted to see an artist at work? It is with great pleasure, we announce our guest Artist in Residency Program for 2023. Transforming our window fronted Stockroom Gallery at 67 Wellington Street, Collingwood, we welcome the artist who seeks the unfamiliar, while providing support and nurturing for the development of new ideas.

When Michael Fox first opened Fox Galleries in Brisbane in the late 90’s he hosted a slew of residency artists. He felt that it was important that collectors and fellow artists connect with artists by interacting with them at their studio. Fast forward to Melbourne 2023, Fox recognises that this is a unique time for artists – a circuit breaker to allow new experiences and a fresh perspective on ways of working.

On March 7 we welcome American-born Harold David, hailing from his studio in the Blue Mountains to benefit from dedicated time, and a chance to connect with the gallery. Armed with the theme of ‘Improvisation and Experimentation’, Harold David will devise his large-scale muscular gestures. For the first time, this process will be open to the nuance of interpretation in an indiscriminate behind the scenes to the energies of expression.

Harold David will be creating artworks in person at Fox Galleries in two sessions, the first ending on 18 March and the second ending on 5 April, which will be followed by an open studio event to celebrate the residency. Clients and friends of the gallery are welcome to come and meet Harold at work during this time.
