Harold David
Adult Contemporary
1 – 30 July 2022
Opening | Saturday 2 July 3 – 5 pm
Contemporary art is the unfaltering hot expression, Fox Galleries presents Harold David’s celebration of this never ending cycle of the rhythms of what is deemed contemporary art. After adding the word adult to the existing state of contemporary art, Harold David’s upcoming exhibition titled ‘Adult Contemporary’ is a humourous realignment of art adulting and begging the question of how we might evolve.
Ardently gaining momentum as a salient multimedia artist, Harold David is best known for his large-scale gestural abstract expressionist paintings. Hailing as a late siren of painting within the public eye, Harold David has moved from behind the camera after a career of critical acclaim within fashion photography in America to relocating to Australia and delving deep into the profound emotions of unbridled beauty in our contemporaneous, hyper-celebrity driven culture. Hinging from this combined oeuvre, the inquisitive and sensitive eye incorporates David’s techniques of photography; light, composition and harmonious colour balance that surge into arresting spaces of emotive dramas.
This new suite of Adult Contemporary mingles sources from his love of old and modern masters, music and contemporary cultural conversation. A body of work with gesticulating paint surfaces that are popping with the critical questions of visceral desire, sexuality, the future of beauty and the very role that contemporary art plays in this all too adult, too filtered world. The uncanny Valley of unsettling feelings, spontaneous mark-making, action painting and energised surfaces all interrogate human agency within contemporary painting to hold an amplified urgency; this is a safe space of ‘Adult Contemporary’.
