Jo Darvall
Biography
J O D A R V A L L was born 1966 Yarram, Victoria. She lives and works in Fremantle Western Australia, and Lectures in Fine Arts University of Western Australia.
Jo Darvall has an engaging visual arts practice. An accomplished artist who specialises in oil painting, watercolour and printmaking. She is no foreigner to experimentation, painstakingly observing and researching her subject matter before using her broad technical prowess to elicit story.
Jo Darvall completed her studies at the Victorian College of the Arts (1990), Melbourne before relocating to Perth with her family.
Darvall has grown her practice over the past three decades and her works of art have featured in nineteen solo exhibitions and forty-eight group exhibitions in Australia, London, China and Singapore.
In 2018 she co-founded the Swan River Print Studio at Goolagatup Heathcote Gallery in the City of Melville, Western Australia. She has been shortlisted for over 28 awards, a successful recipient of Development Funding by the department of local government to exhibit internationally and interstate.
Darvall taught at the Fremantle Arts Centre (FAC), the University of Western Australia (UWA), and is one of the founders for Artists for Kids Culture Trust in Victoria. Darvall has been featured in magazine and newspaper articles and has published catalogues with guest writers for most of her solo exhibitions, with her work represented in major private and international collections.
