Yvonne Boag

Continuation

31 August- 24 September 2023

Exhibition Opening Thursday 31 August 6-8pm

This September Yvonne Boag’s solo debut at Fox Galleries is presenting new territory, ecstatic and vibrant contemporary paintings. ‘Continuation’ is the amalgam of decades of place informing practice.

Scottish-born Australian painter, Yvonne Boag’s recent painting series features a more line driven exploration of interior and exterior landscapes. A group of new age landscapes that challenges into visualisation, the complicated and intriguing dimensions of fundamental physics.

Working between Korea and Australia, this sense of place permeates Boag’s unusual way of organising her landscape. Influenced by geographic movement of people, but also the physical properties of the earth’s surface, Boags paintings take on a kinetic and vibrational quality.

This gusto for new understanding of nature’s organisation is expressed as tiny globules of one-dimensional colour objects that rally together. Compositions that defy our unusual understanding of space – similar to a magic eye- if you look long enough:

Things start to move.

Artist Statement:

These new paintings illuminate my continued existence and my constant searching for a way to hold onto time and experience.

Each of these landscapes are have a complexity and timelessness that goes and beyond our understanding. They are simultaneously together and apart and we are somewhere in between.
